Duncan has been an independent, full-time commercial and maritime arbitrator since April 2014.
Duncan received his first appointment as an arbitrator when he was appointed in September 2008 by the ICC as an arbitrator in an international case. Duncan has subsequently been appointed as a party-appointed arbitrator in many LMAA arbitrations. He has also acted as Chairman, panel member and sole arbitrator in LCIA arbitrations.
Before becoming an arbitrator, Duncan was a lawyer and a Partner at law firms Bird & Bird and Lewis Silkin. He has arbitrated throughout his professional life and was involved in over 200 significant commercial and shipping arbitrations as Counsel in the last 25 years. As well as commercial and shipping arbitrations, Duncan’s work has included arbitrations in the IT, life sciences and telecoms fields.
